Overview

Basic 4×2 HDMI matrix switchers offer front panel and IR control — but commercial integrators increasingly require IP-based management for remote operation, diagnostics, and control system integration. The KanexPro HDMX42-18G delivers a full three-interface control suite — WebGUI, Telnet, and RS-232 — alongside front panel and IR, giving integrators complete flexibility to manage the unit from any network-connected device or third-party control system.

Supporting 4K@60Hz 4:4:4 with 18Gbps bandwidth and HDCP 2.2 compliance, the HDMX42-18G routes any of four HDMI sources to two independent displays at full 4K fidelity. Apple HDCP mode allows non-HDCP content from Apple and similar devices to display on non-HDCP screens without signal loss. Seven EDID presets — including sink-learned and resolution-specific options — handle mixed source and display environments. Compact half-rack form factor fits cleanly into any AV furniture or rack install.

What is the maximum video bandwidth of the HDMX42-18G?
600MHz / 18Gbps, supporting resolutions from 480i@60Hz up to 4K@60Hz (4:4:4, 8-bit), and VGA@60Hz up to WUXGA@60Hz.
How many EDID presets does the HDMX42-18G offer?
Seven EDID presets: SINK A, SINK B, 720P, 1080P, 4K_3G, 4K_Y420, and 4K_6G, selectable in ALL mode or per-input APPOINT mode.
What control methods does the HDMX42-18G support?
WebGUI (browser-based routing, EDID, HDCP, naming, and network settings), Telnet CLI, RS-232 (115200 baud, full command set), front panel buttons, and IR remote (CR-155).
What is the default IP address for WebGUI and Telnet control?
192.168.1.50, reachable via the rear CONTROL (RJ-45) port.
Which HDMI input is accessible from the front panel?
HDMI IN 1 is on the front panel; HDMI IN 2, 3, and 4 are on the rear panel.
How is the HDMX42-18G powered?
Via the included DC 5V/2.6A power adapter connected to the rear DC 5V port; power consumption is 7.1W.
An Apple TV is not displaying on a non-HDCP monitor, what should I do?
Enable Apple HDCP mode via the WebGUI HDCP tab, or send the RS-232 command HDCPIN [x] 1, where x is the input number.
How do I access the WebGUI if it is not loading?
Connect to the CONTROL (RJ-45) port and navigate to 192.168.1.50 in a browser. No password is required by default.
What makes the HDMX42-18G suited for mixed Apple and non-HDCP display environments?
Its per-input Apple HDCP mode allows non-HDCP content from Apple devices to display on non-HDCP displays without additional HDCP-stripping hardware.
Why choose the HDMX42-18G over a simpler HDMI switch for AV integration?
It offers three independent control paths, WebGUI, Telnet, and RS-232, plus front panel and IR control, giving integrators flexibility to fit browser control, control processors, and CLI scripting into a single 4x2 matrix.
