Overview

Most 4×2 HDMI matrix switchers route video without addressing the audio — leaving integrators to add separate audio extractors for every zone. The KanexPro HDMX42A-18G solves that directly: it routes any of four 18Gbps HDMI sources to two independent displays while simultaneously extracting audio via optical Toslink (S/PDIF) and analog L/R outputs — no external extractors required.

Compliant with HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2/1.4, the HDMX42A-18G supports 4K@60Hz 4:4:4 with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HLG pass-through across both outputs. Per-output 4K→1080p downscaling allows mixed-resolution display environments without additional hardware. ARC support extracts return audio from connected ARC-enabled TVs to the optical output. Three-position EDID management (AUTO/COPY/STD) and front panel + IR control make it a compact, integrator-friendly solution for education, hospitality, and conference room installations.

What is in the box?
The 4x2 matrix switcher, a 12V/1A locking power adapter, two mounting ears, an IR remote and the user manual.
How many inputs and outputs, and can they be routed independently?
Four HDMI inputs and two HDMI outputs, routed independently. HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2/1.4 and DVI 1.0 compliant at 18Gbps.
What is the maximum video resolution?
Up to 4K@60Hz YCbCr 4:4:4, with all HDMI 3D formats, and Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG pass-through.
What audio can I take off it separately from the displays?
Optical Toslink S/PDIF carrying PCM 2.0, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS, plus an analog L/R output at PCM 2.0.
How is it controlled?
By the front panel or the supplied IR remote.
How is it mounted and powered?
Two mounting ears are supplied for rack or shelf fixing. Power is a 12V/1A locking adapter, 3.8W maximum. The chassis is 9.88in x 0.79in x 4.13in and weighs 1.37 lbs.
The analog L/R output has gone silent.
The L/R output mutes while ARC is active. That is by design, not a fault.
A display shows nothing on one input.
Check that the source is within HDCP 2.2 or 1.4 and inside the 18Gbps budget: 4K@60Hz 4:4:4 at 12-bit exceeds what the link can carry to every output at once.
Can it feed two displays and a separate audio system at the same time?
Yes. The two HDMI outputs run independently and the optical and analog audio outputs are extracted at the same time.
Does it handle HDR?
Yes, Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG pass through, with 8-bit, 10-bit and 12-bit colour depth.
