Overview

Extends a laptop's USB-C port to a USB-C interactive display or monitor up to 40m/130ft away - 4K60 video, USB 3.2 data and touch return on one CAT6a cable, with 100W charging at the desk. The EXT-USBC2C4K-40M transmitter accepts a full-featured USB-C input (DisplayPort Alt Mode 1.4a, USB 3.2 Gen 1 data, Power Delivery 3.0) and the receiver delivers a full-featured USB-C output - DP Alt Mode 1.4a video plus USB 3.2 Gen 1 data on the same connector - so an interactive display that takes touch over its USB-C input plugs in with a single USB-C cable and its touch, camera and hub come back to the presenter's laptop (single-cable touch tested on Windows). A display whose touch port is USB-B connects to a receiver USB port with a USB A-to-B cable. Three more USB 3.2 downstream ports, de-embedded analog audio and RS-232 pass-through sit at the display end.

Bi-directional 24V PoC powers either end from a single supply, USB 3.2 Gen 1 runs at up to 2.5 Gbps for 4K cameras and touch, and 25 EDID presets plus an ASCII API over the SERVICE port give integrators control of HDCP, EDID and USB port power. Resolutions up to 4096x2160@60, 5120x1440@60 and 5120x2160 (50Hz 4:4:4 / 60Hz 4:2:0) pass over the USB-C link with HDR10+, Dolby Vision and HLG. Requires CAT6a U/FTP 23AWG minimum; 100W laptop charging is available when the transmitter is powered from its own 24V/7.5A supply. For HDMI displays and projectors use EXT-USBCPD4K-40M.

Key features
  • Extends a full-featured USB-C source (DP Alt Mode 1.4a video, USB 3.2 Gen 1 data, PD 3.0 charging) up to 40m/130ft at 4K and 35m/115ft at 5K over one CAT6a cable
  • Receiver provides a full-featured USB-C output: DP Alt Mode 1.4a video and USB 3.2 Gen 1 data on one connector - interactive displays connect with a single USB-C cable and touch returns to the laptop
  • Up to 4K60 4:4:4 (18Gbps) with HDCP 2.3; also 5120x1440@60 and 5120x2160 (50Hz 4:4:4 / 60Hz 4:2:0)
  • Up to 100W USB-C Power Delivery back to the laptop over the same USB-C cable (transmitter powered from the included 24V/7.5A supply)
  • Three additional USB 3.2 Gen 1 downstream ports at the receiver (2x USB-A, 1x USB-C, 5V/1.5A each) for cameras, speakerphones and storage; up to 2.5 Gbps
  • Bi-directional 24V PoC: power the transmitter or the receiver and the far end needs no supply
  • Analog audio de-embedding (3.5mm, LPCM 2CH) at both ends plus RS-232 pass-through on 3-pin phoenix connectors
  • HDR, HDR10+, Dolby Vision and HLG pass-through; 8/10/12-bit color; RGB and YCbCr 4:4:4 / 4:2:2 / 4:2:0

Hi, I'm Eric from KanexPro. This is the KanexPro USB-C to USB-C extender kit: one cable each end. Interactive displays take one USB-C cable, but not across a room; this kit takes it 40 metres. Built for big USB-C displays. The twenty-one by nine ultrawide in the video meeting room. The classroom panel: touch comes back to the laptop as you write. And a board on a cart. Here's how it connects. The laptop plugs in with one USB-C cable, one and a half metres at most. One CAT6a run carries it up to 40 metres. The receiver feeds the display, the room camera and the speakerphone. One 24 volt supply charges the laptop at up to 100 watts and powers both ends. For rooms with a big USB-C display. Video meeting rooms. Lecture halls and podiums. K-12 classrooms. Training rooms. Healthcare teaching rooms. Now, the key features. One plug at the table: picture, touch, camera and charge, no dongle. 5K ultrawide up to 35 metres, 4K at 60 hertz up to 40 metres. In-wall CAT6a, 40 metres: one kit per room. The touch controller is a USB device, so touch rides the same cable, tested on Windows. Up to 100 watts charges the laptop: no charger at the table. And for integrators: RS-232 at both ends, an ASCII API, 25 EDID presets and USB port power. Spec it into your next room. Thanks for watching. I'm Eric from KanexPro. See you next time.

Does touch work over the single USB-C cable on the EXT-USBC2C4K-40M, and on which systems?
Yes. One USB-C cable from USB-C OUT carried 4K60 4:4:4 video and touch on a Sculptor touchscreen, tested on Windows. macOS and ChromeOS are not verified. Promethean panels need a separate USB 2.0 A-to-B cable from a receiver USB DEVICE port.
How far can this extender carry a 4K signal, and over what cable?
The EXT-USBC2C4K-40M reaches up to 40m/130ft at 4K and 35m/115ft at 5K over a single CAT6a cable, U/FTP 23AWG minimum, direct-wired.
What USB data rate does the EXT-USBC2C4K-40M carry?
It supports USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 2.0 with a transfer rate up to 2.5 Gbps. It does not support 5 Gbps operation.
How do you control the EXT-USBC2C4K-40M from an AV system?
It offers RS-232 pass-through on a 3-pin phoenix connector at both ends, plus an ASCII API over the SERVICE USB-C port at 115200 baud, 8N1.
Does each end of the EXT-USBC2C4K-40M need its own power supply?
No. The kit ships with one 24V/7.5A adapter; plug it into either the transmitter or receiver and bi-directional 24V PoC powers the far end over the same CAT6a cable. USB-C charging to the laptop, however, works only when the transmitter has its own supply.
How must the CAT cable between the two boxes on the EXT-USBC2C4K-40M be wired?
It must be a direct, straight-through run, terminated to the same pin and color order at both ends; do not cross-connect the two ends. A surge protection device is recommended to protect the electronics from spikes and surges.
There is no image on the display connected to the EXT-USBC2C4K-40M. What should I check?
Check the transmitter VIDEO LED: solid means video with HDCP, blinking means video without HDCP, off means no signal. Then confirm the LINK LED is on at both ends, the USB-C IN LED is green for an active source, and the receiver's USB-C OUT LED is green for a connected display.
The LINK LED on the EXT-USBC2C4K-40M is off. What does that indicate?
The transmitter and receiver are not linked. Confirm a single CAT6a cable (U/FTP 23AWG minimum) runs from the transmitter AV-USB3 OUT to the receiver AV-USB3 IN, that it is straight-through and not cross-connected, and that the run is within 40m for 4K or 35m for 5K.
Which interactive displays work with the USB-C receiver?
Any display whose USB-C input accepts DisplayPort Alt Mode video. Verified on manufacturer spec pages: SMART Board MX V5 / MX Pro, Promethean ActivPanel 9, ViewSonic ViewBoard IFP50-5 and CDE30, BenQ Board RE04, Dell C5522QT / C6522QT / C8621QT, LG CreateBoard TR3DK, Samsung Flip Pro WMB and Sharp/N
Does touch come back to the laptop?
Yes. The receiver's USB-C OUT carries USB 3.2 Gen 1 data together with the DP Alt Mode video, so the panel's touch controller, camera and hub enumerate on the laptop exactly as with a direct USB-C cable. Verify on your specific board model before a large rollout.
